These little cars get up to 90 mph, and are just the funniest things to watch.

Late Models... these one looked like NASCAR cars to me. Fun to watch, but a lot louder than I expected.

Which brings me to my soapbox. (My blog, my soapbox.) If you have a newborn baby, hypothetically, and just cannot bear to miss a Friday night of local racing, and you somehow assume that your newborn baby also cannot bear to miss the race, well then you are WRONG. Furthermore, you are STUPID. Adults wear ear plugs at these races. When your kid is 5 and has no hearing left, he will have every right to kick you in the shins repeatedly. Get a sitter, or you know, leave the baby with the dog. Whatever. Don't bring a baby to the track. (off of soapbox)

This car is a Super Modified... something. Sorry, I'll take better notes next time. FAST. Way too fast to get any good shots of it on the track. It was great to get down close for shots after though. Driver Steve Dickey Jr. came in 2nd this week. Next week it'll be first!

Tons of fun on the cheap if you're ever without something to do on a Friday night.
Bonus: the hubs will think you are too cool for a guy oriented date night!

The post my mother will never believe is true.

Despite 20 something years of protesting eating my vegetables, this whole running idea has made me become more aware of the amount of protein/vitamins/carbs etc that I am putting into my body. J has been on a mission to break me of my child-like eating habits pretty much since our first date. And he's done well. This is proof.

This past morning I went so far as to combine these several ingredients....

Why would I do this you ask? Aside from longing to drink a smoothie that looks like something that came out of a swamp, it was because I am a huge jump-on-the-bandwagon-er. That's right. All my friends jumped off the bridge, so naturally I did too. Just kidding. Kinda

And Angela promises tons of energy, beautiful hair and skin, and never-ending riches. Maybe not the last part. But really, I've been so tired lately from trying to keep up with training, photography, work just got busier, husband likes to see me, etc etc. You know. Life. A girl can use all the help she can get right? So I tried it.

Honestly, it was WAY better than I expected. Not spinach tasting at all. More banana than anything. I like it. My energy levels were noticeably higher too. So I'll be making more of these.

Oh, and if you try it, Angela does say to serve it in the prettiest glass you own. I think it helps :)

Took a day off from training tonight. Running-buddy-Jill and I have been hitting the pavement hard and consistently, making sure we get all the miles in. Saturday we ran a ten miler. While it was definitely hard, it felt great. I've been struggling on the longer runs lately, and mentally was starting to get down. This was the farthest I've ran since my half marathon last fall, and I'm excited to say it was fun.

My friend Shannon ran her first 5k yesterday!! It was held at our work, and while I can say a few things about the organization, it was flat and fun to run with her. She killed it too. Great pace, and pushed at the end to pass a few people. She is brand new to running, and has been doing a couch (potato) to 5k program. She hasn't actually made it to the end, because she's an overachiever and tackled the race early. I was so proud.

And tonight, I skipped my scheduled run. Feeling a little run down, and sometimes you just gotta listen to your body, right? So I'll be continuing reading about running a marathon.

More fun facts about me... former book worm. I still love to devour a book. But how many evenings do I really have between training for marathon and training with my camera?

Nose Smudges on my Jeep windows make me happy. Yup. If the dog hair covering every iota of space, new scratches on the leather despite our trying to cover it (sorry mom!) and the slobber on the arm/rest console didn't give it away, let me state the obvious. I love that our dogs go everywhere in the Jeep with us! Nose smudges are happy smudges.

On a different note, apparently the Chinese Food place requires 24 hour access to their back door. I didn't say it. They did. (sorry mom, again.)

Shooting in the woods presents a different set of challenges than being out in the open sunlight. I've learned that the sunlight breaking through the canopy of leaves creates pockets of light that can effectively make it so that you lose definition of leaves/branches/etc. and it really just looks like there is white every where. Maybe a fog or snow.

Extra compensation with higher ISO, and an attempt at lower exposure.

Dave and Alicia taught me tons last Saturday. Too much for one post. Besides, I didn't want to take away from that giant, giggle inducing tree stump named Conan.Muscley Barbarians aside, I did learn how to compensate when the background of my shot has more light than the subject in the foreground. Very useful given the amount of shots that I've taken that have been completely ruined by shadows.

Last week I introduced you to this cutie, now please meet her adorable older cousin:

Not only does she do funny stuff like this when I ask her to pose, but she is just generally a bundle of energy.

She loves Tinkerbell, her baby brother, teaching Lilly how to do EVERYTHING, and in general is just rocking at being 5.

True story time: J and I were at the store buying her Tinkerbell themed presents. And then we found a card that lit up, sang, and told her a story. Tinkerbell themed. "Perfect!", we said. Into the basket it went. Get to the self-checkout... scan... $7.50. WHAT?! "But babe, it lights up! She'll love it! It'll be worth it!", I plead to J. We buy it. Emilee opens it up... sees and hears it in all it's Tinkerbell glory...

"Oh my gosh, this card is SO annoying!"

That's right. She's too cool for my $7.50 card!

Saturday I took my first photography class. A real live photography class. Taught by someone who retired from teaching photography. And has shot for magazine covers. It was ahhh-mazing. David and Alicia from Silver Hills Studio taught me exactly how much I have to learn. Among other things :)

Our first lesson was in setting the proper exposure in 1/3rds.

Let's meet Conan: (that's Conan like Conan the Barbarian, not so much like Conan O'Brien, whom I do love dearly. Team Conan. Anyway.)

See the difference that changing the exposure by just 1/3 lighter or darker makes? The picture in the middle is set with a "normal" exposure, or at zero.

(ps. please feel free to giggle at the pictures in a slightly immature way. It was part of their structural garden in the fields. I agree. I see the naughtiness of it too.)

We also looked at how perspective of the subject can change the feel of the picture.

Amazing, no? Maybe not amazing, but definitely something I can't wait to try on other subjects.

So the original pictures that I took on Day 25 were of Max wearing a purple monkey costume. Sadly, these accidently got deleted while I was uploading other pictures at a photography class that I took Saturday morning. So instead of purple monkey dog, I'll show you some pictures of me and J. Totally self-absorbed I know.

None of these pictures were taken by me. I'm just saying. Trying to show off my modeling? Hahaha... I am really just bragging about how cute my hubby is.

It's Memorial Day Weekend, and J had to work. Most of our friends were out of town, so I decided to visit a local farm to see what kind of finds I could find.

Lull Farm is a great family farm in Hollis NH, and they sell everything from flowers, to herbs, to fresh fruits and vegetables! AND CHICKENS!! I saw a sign at the register that you could purchase fresh chickens for 2.49 lb, but I'll be honest, I'm not sure if that's fresh chicken meat, or you know, cluck-cluck-chickens-in-a-pen chickens.

I ended up purchasing fresh cucumbers, blueberries, bananas, and a VitaCoco. I've never had one, but have heard great things about them, and now that marathon training is officially here... I thought I'd try it out. Review forth coming :)

So there you have it... another post about the charms of small town NH :) Maybe tomorrow I'll shoot something in our more urban areas? (Fellow NH residents are rolling their eyes right now... It'll definitely be a photographic challenge!!)

My niece (and Goddaughter!!) had her third birthday this past week, and the fam gathered to celebrate. Fun facts about Lilly:

She HATES to be dirty, and loves to clean. Which I completely blame on my neat-freak sister :)

She is only three and can already multi-task. Example: blowing bubbles does NOT mean you need to put down your doritos. No ma'am.

She told everyone all day that she was four. Which is HILARIOUS. She's three. See the shirt her mom made her? So cute.

She is one of the most polite small people I know. My sister should be proud.

She loves her Uncle J more than most of us. As proof, I've added pictures from her second birthday where she NEEDED to sit on his lap while opening her presents:

J and I spent some time this evening strolling around the local car club's weekly meeting. All these classic cars will congregate in the local Target parking lot, all gleamed up and looking their best. There are all different styles, from Model Ts to muscle cars to vintage motorcycles. It was actually a lot of fun taking pictures there; people are more than willing to let you get good angles, the lighting was great, and the reflective surfaces were fun to work with.

And of course the crowd is fun too!!

Once upon a time I was a nanny for the most wonderful little girl in the world. She was smart, and sweet, and loved to have stories read to her. We loved to go on adventures, and had tons of fun.

Now life has taken me to many other wonderful places, but this little girl will always have my heart. Thing is, she's not so little anymore. She's a beautiful girl, still smart and funny. Now with a huge personality, and she's so much fun.

Today I actually had the luxury to drive somewhere for the sole purpose of parking my car and seeing what I could see through my lens. It was a beautiful afternoon, and New England this time of year has a lot to offer. I drove to a near by small town (very small town), parked at an old church, and wasn't disappointed.

This Church was actually established in the year 1743, and is where one of my best friends married last fall. It's really a beautiful old building.

Outside the church is a cemetary. I'm pretty sure all the headstones had the same family name on them: Farley...

... except for this one:

The rest of the town common is quaint and picturesque

To put into perspective how charming and unchanged the town center seems, this same picture in black and white looks timeless, no?

I'm not going to even pretend that I took pictures yesterday. No sense in lying to you fine folks, right? ;) So instead, here is a few of my favorite pictures that I've taken on days that were not yesterday:

These two little angels were so fun to have as "models". That is, until they decided that they didn't want to be "models" anymore. And then they were divas.

Somedays, I really really really want to be him. Look at how freakin happy he is?! And then I remember that I can have Beer. He cannot.
I think he's training to be as fast as her... the smaller one... who started with the second group of kids, caught up to the first, and finished before them. Yeah. She's quick.

If only they'd stay still long enough to get a good shot.

Today was one of those days where I needed inspiration. I was so tired by the time I got home from work that it was all I could do to make dinner and flop on the couch. No I didn't get my run in. Yes I have a little bit of guilt. I'll forgive myself after tomorrow's run :)

But for inspiration, I immediately went to my google reader. What should I try to photograph today? Not surprisingly, my fingers floated over to today's post from Shutter Sisters. Today's post was "words words everywhere". This is one of my absolute favorite photography blogs. The girls are always thoughtful, and inspire me to look through the lens differently than I did the day before. So today, I give thanks, as well as credit, for inspiring me to attempt to capture words in my home as well:

and my personal favorite (mostly because it comes from a card with a dirty joke on the inside. and yes, I am that immature. Well, we are that immature. Ha!)

Early to bed, so that I can make up for that run I procrastinated on tonight...

A lot of times in life we have tunnel vision. Times when we are so focused on one thing or idea, that we forget to look at the whole picture. And that in turn can lead to missing out on so many things. It's not always a bad thing. Many times we use tunnel vision to get something accomplished, like a project at work, or a personal goal. However, it's important to remember to slow down, appreciate the big picture and the details. Focus on all the good things, and the things you'd like to change.

Tonight I remembered I need to live in the present more often. To be present. Enjoy these years in my twenties, before they are gone and I look back on them wondering how they moved so quickly. I remembered to appreciate myself for all that I am, and to forgive myself for trying to be something else. I regained focus.

Letting go of that tunnel vision can be scary. Sometimes it makes all the difference in the world.

Day 7?! Already?! Haha...

So in addition to starting a photography blog, I've also recently signed up for a marathon. 26.2 miles. All in a row. Scary. 133 days to train.

My training would be nothing without this guy. I'm actually pretty proud of that time too; today's run was only a 3 miler. J woke me up from a nap on the couch so that I could get it in before dinner... So hard to go from sleep to run. He was right though, I did feel so much better afterwards.

Played with a flashlight for this one, held directly above, with a slower shutter speed. I like the reflection on the table...

Definitely time for sleep now though. Busy Monday tomorrow, as usual!

Today was a beautiful Saturday, and I was fortunate to spend most of it outside. J was busy doing something to his truck...

So I was left to sit around, hand him wrenches every now and then, and take pictures at my leisure. I love days like this.

Back on track, Baby!!

So DPS http://digital-photography-school.com/ has been an amazing source of information for me as I've begun learning this craft. Amazing. If you are not familiar with them, and looking to learn about anything photography related, you need to hop on over and check them out. F-stop? Aperture? ISO? What's that? While I'm not sure I could define each of those yet, DPS can. And will explain not only the terms, but how to apply it to make your images better. And it is a great community full of photographers of all levels, so you get great perspective. See? Can't say enough good things about the site.

One of my favorite things about DPS is their weekly assignments. I've never participated, but this weeks assignment was "shadows" and I thought I might give it a go.

So this first one is obviously my wine glasses, but I love the way the shadows behind them look. Almost like those tulips J gave me for my birthday :)

This little guy is a treasured possession. Moose. Love the bold color of this one. Love it. (J actually suggested it when I told him the assignment was shadows. He's so creative...)

So there you have it. Tomorrow is the weekend.. so I really will have no excuse for not posting on time.

This post is also late. (off to a great start huh?) But before you write me off as one of those bloggers who is unfaithful, full of promises, and then disappears... I'd like to let you know that I worked late. Or rather, had a work outing that kept me out late. You know, the kind where you have drinks and appetizers and then go to a ball game. It was rough. But someone had to go, right? Schmoozing and moving...

Which is also why my clean laundry never got folded and is instead in a heap on the guest bed. Which clearly means that dogs have burrowed in/under it. Thinking less of me now, huh?

So the post is late, but I swear I took the picture on Wednesday. Scouts honor. (NO I wasn't a scout, but my husband was an eagle scout so that's still a big deal in our house).

I was going for a still life shot. In-animate objects placed to look a certain way.

This was taken after a few drinks at dinner. A friend of mine from high school was in town, and took J and I out to dinner as an apology for missing our wedding. Needless to say, appetizers, dinner, drinks, all passed before we knew it was so late.

Second day in, and we've gone to the dogs. Can't say I didn't warn you. But I figured you all should meet some key players in this project. We are dog people. Seriously. We are those people who talk to their dogs and for their dogs. It's pathetic, and I too am embarrassed to know me.

Photography. Images. Pictures. Snapshots.

Oh internet, I must confess: I'd like to be really really good at taking photographs. Not just a little good. Really good. Sometimes I'm a bit of a perfectionist. Sometimes I'm lazy too though. So this is the deal I've made with myself.

100 pictures in a 100 days.

(maybe more. I'm also indecisive.)

If I can take my camera out every day, take at least one picture every day, for 100 days, then surely I'll get better right? And I'll reward myself with... something. TBD. ('cause that's how I roll.) And this goal will be displayed here, for the world to possibly see. Hopefully I get better in those 100 (or more) days. Hopefully I'll find new and exciting things to shoot over the days too. Otherwise, be prepared for lots of pictures of my dogs and my coffee.
